AESWA MEMBERS COME FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE

Some AESWA members are Egyptologists (practising and retired), teachers, authors, scientists and engineers; others are keen amateur enthusiasts, students, artists, or simply people who are fascinated by Ancient Egypt. Many of our members are frequent visitors to Egypt, while others hope to travel there soon. What we all share is a lively interest in Ancient Egypt and a desire to know more!

AESWA OFFERS A WIDE RANGE OF ACTIVITIES

Our monthly meetings include informative lectures on a wide variety of topics about Ancient Egypt, as well as a chance to socialise with others Egyptophiles. We also organise lectures and weekend workshops with visiting Egyptologists. Our quarterly newsletter, The Nilometer, features AESWA news and the latest discoveries about Ancient Egypt. AESWA members have free access to our Egyptology library which contains both academic works and books for the general reader. We host regular social events including an Australia Day Breakfast, Annual Anniversary Lunch and Christmas Party. When circumstances permit, we arrange study tours to Egypt and classes in the Ancient Egyptian language and hieroglyphic writing.

AESWA IS AUSTRALIA’S OLDEST AND LARGEST PRIVATELY FUNDED EGYPTOLOGY SOCIETY

The Ancient Egypt Society of Western Australia Inc. was founded in 1996 as a non-profit educational organization. AESWA is run by a dedicated group of volunteers and is funded entirely by memberships fees, fundraising events and members’ contributions.

AESWA members contribute creatively to the world of Egyptology. Some are authors of scholarly books or journal articles about Ancient Egypt. Others write historical fiction set in Ancient Egypt. Many of our members are outstanding photographers whose images document the monuments of Egypt and artefacts in museums the world over. Other members are artists who enjoy recreating the Ancient Egyptian world, or craftspeople who produce jewellery, fabrics, clothing, needlecrafts, papercrafts and toys with an Egyptian theme. Some of us even dabble in Ancient Egyptian cookery. However you engage with Ancient Egypt, you’re sure to find AESWA members who share your interests.
